On that fateful evening, contractor and co-business owner Tucker Kane was looking forward to an evening with Lauren. He just has to stop by an old abandoned house to pick up a load of rare mahogany paneling before joining her for dinner. But his world is turned upside down when he discovers the body of his ex-wife Margot lying in the abandoned house where the mahogany should be and his wood and hammer are missing. His relationship with Margot has been tumultuous since the divorce and the animosity between them has increased with the recent bitter battle for custody of three year old Kristy. His discovery of Margot’s body, the evidence that is stacked against him, and the fact he has no alibi, plunges Tucker into a nightmare where the police and almost everyone else is convinced that he is the one who murdered Margot. As the mounting evidence points to Tucker, in desperation, he asks Lauren to change her statement to give him an alibi. Can Lauren tell this one lie to give him an alibi if it means it may give him the time and freedom to find the real killer? Can she give him the alibi to keep him from being arrested for a crime he did not commit? How far would you go to save someone you love?

Roses – a pact was made among friends. A reminder of the duties of friendship.

Roses by Leila Meacham

A red rose will be sent to ask for forgiveness.

A white rose will be returned to say all is forgiven.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the small Texas town of Howbutker is dominated by three families: the Tolivers who preside over the massive cotton plantation, Somerset; the Warwicks who possess acres upon acres of timber; and the DuMonts, who developed their business selling luxury dry goods. The children of these families pretty and stubborn Mary Tolliver, who only has room in her heart for Somerset, suave Percy Warwick, and faithful and constant Ollie DuMont. Percy and Mary often find themselves at odds with each other, but there is also an underlying attraction. Percy insists that someday she will marry him. However, fate seems to keep them apart. The consequences of their separation vibrate throughout the years, giving rise to lies, deceit, secrets, and tragedies. Ultimately only Percy, Mary, and perhaps fate can make everything right in the end. A multigenerational saga that is told by in three segments – one by Mary, one by Percy and one by Rachel, Mary’s Great Niece, who has the Mary’s strength and hopes to carry on the tradition of Somerset. Roses is a novel of love, the choices we make and the consequences of those choices. And it is the story of the power of the red rose - the power of forgiveness.
