A big thank you to all who donated to the Library. We received more than $6000 for Friends of the Library!
Lexington Public Library to participate in Give BIG Lexington
Funds raise will pay for landscaping outside library
The Friends of the Library are planning upcoming events for 2018 Give Big Lexington. The theme for the Friends of the Library’s Give Big campaign is “Dig It!”
Funds raised at GBL will be designated to improve the landscaping on the east side of the library. The Friends of the Library hope the area can be replanted with hardy perennials that are adaptable to the Nebraska weather.
Once enough funds are raised for the landscaping project, Thomsen said she will ask for bids. Preferably, the library is hoping to have a Dawson County landscaping company do the project, she said.
Give BIG Lexington, an all-day giving day for many Lexington area non-profits, is on Nov. 15, 2018.
Donations can be made online at www.giveBIGlexington.org. Contributions for the event are accepted beginning at 12a.m. and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 15. Donations must be made before midnight on Nov. 15 to qualify for the matching funds.
The Lexington Community Foundation will also receive gifts from individuals who prefer to make their gifts in person instead of online. The Lexington Community Foundation is moving to the old country storage building (the old Sixth Street Market) for Give BIG. That address is 200 West 7th Street. Donations during Give BIG Lexington can be dropped off there during the event.
Also, some of the funds generated by the Friends of the Library from Give Big Lexington will go toward funding the Friends of the Library’s contribution to the Library Initiative Grant. This grant provides funding for the majority of library programs, including an array of summer reading programs, the Sunday afternoon family presentations, and “Booked for Lunch,” programs.
Events that are being planned at the Library for Give Big Lexington include:
Treasure Trove at the Library – In a flea-market style, the library will have lots of treasures for purchase in November (or until all the treasures are gone.)
Gently Used Cookbook Sale – It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for new ways to prepare veggies, casseroles, steak or chocolate, the library has a “Gently Used Cookbook” for you.
The Friends of the Library will be selling brownies and other treats during the week of Nov. 6. Stop by the Library anytime during these two weeks to purchase a sweet treat for only 50 cents.
The Friends of the Library sponsor Java Junction, the Library’s coffee, tea and hot chocolate station. Leading up to Give BIG, all proceeds from coffee sales will be applied to the library’s GBL fundraising total.
Past GBL Friends of the Library funding efforts have provided 10 tables for the library’s meeting rooms, new computer chairs, reading material and furniture for the library’s Parent and Children’s Discovery Area and AWE computers for children.
